Cool Halloween Costume Ideas from Soda Waste

| Friday, October 22nd, 2010 |

So your SodaStream has all but wiped out the existence of plastic bottles and aluminum cans in your day-to-day life, right? Well, on the off chance that you’ve had to grab a bottle on the run lately or (dare we suggest it) relapsed into getting a liter or two from the grocery store, all is not lost. Halloween is just around the corner and there are plenty of fun costume and prop ideas to turn that waste into wearable works of art.

1)      One man’s empty soda bottle is another man’s…jetpack?

From the creative mind behind the blog ModMischief, here’s a crafty take on making a Rocketeer jetpack. The perfect complement to any space-inspired costume this Halloween, the contraption is made of items that can be found in your recycling bin, including 2-liter soda bottles, shampoo/conditioner bottles, and paper towel rolls. Some hot-glue action and a layer of paint later, you’ll be ready for lift-off. Too bad it’s not functional. Full link here.

2)      Underwater Scuba Explorer

Feeling more marine biologist than space cadet? The two 2-liter set-up could also double as an oxygen tank for an underwater scuba diver outfit. It takes a lot less work, can be thrown together last minute and is perfect for smaller kids. Pull on some swimwear and call it a day. Full link here.

3)      Plastic Ninja Warrior

For those truly skilled in the way of the scissor-cutting, try your hand at fashioning some feudalistic armor out of those plastic bottles. And while your version need not be as intricate as Kosuke Tsumura’s, the concept could be just what the eco-ninja ordered. For a full-on warrior effect, you could make some nun chucks out of soda cans!  Full link here.

4)      It’s a bird, it’s a Coke, it’s…

A bird-man made out of soda cans! With “feathers” made out of aluminum and steel wire, take care not to cut your fellow partygoers. Man of steel, indeed.  Full link here.

Now we’d love to hear some of your crafty Halloween ideas, especially ones that include recyclable materials. Post about it in the comments! [Extra brownie points if they include something soda-related.]
